I designed a series of trail signs for the Marais de Cygnes National Wildlife refuge in Eastern Kansas, just south of Kansas City. The panels work as way-finding components, helping to orient and direct visitors, as well as interpretive panels providing information and context about the refuge.
The typography, banner elements, and use of texture are intended to create fun, engaging, adventurous feel to these outdoor panels. The color palette is inspired by the natural beauty of the refuge, but used implemented to catch the eye instead of disappearing into the landscape.
An introductory panel is located at the beginning of each trail. These panels include a trail map as well as a map indicated where on the refuge the visitor is located.
Trail panels provide a short description of each trail as well as photos of plants, animals and points of interest that may be encountered during your hike.
Each trail has a set of up to six interpretive panels with a distinct color palette that helps guide visitors on their hikes.
